Crist's denial
In Elinor Brecher's Jan. 29 piece, Is paternity denial by Crist really enough?, the Rev. Robert V. Lee III said of Gov. Charlie Crist that, ``He's an honorable man. I'd caution everybody to err on the side of love and grace instead of fear and judgment.''
I hope that Lee meant that caution to apply regardless of what the outcome of a paternity test would be should Crist agree to one. Love and grace might motivate the governor to resolve the issue for the family of the adopted woman.
If a paternity test were to be positive, and Crist can accept that with love and grace, it would be a fine example of honoring the truth. If a test came back negative, Crist would have proved that his claim is true and will have eased family members' minds. They are simply seeking the truth about their daughter's heritage.
Either way, Crist wins if he takes the DNA test. If he doesn't, many people will be disappointed at his unwillingness to ascertain the truth -- no one more so than the adopted young woman.
